>>> bottom of the hour now, 7:30 a.m. eastern time in newtown, connecticut. welcome, and welcome to our international viewers joining us from around the world. i'm ali velshi, you're watching cnn's special coverage of the connecticut school shooting. we are live in newtown, connecticut. here's what we know this morning about what happened at sandy hook elementary school. in about 30 minutes we expect authorities to hold a news conference right where i am and release the identities of the victims. police say 20 children between the ages of 5 and 10 were killed as well as six adults at the school including the principal and psychologist. sources say adam lanza was armed with three guns, two on him, one found in a car nearby. police say he got the guns from his mother who owned them. she was licensed to have them. she was found dead in her home about 2 1/2 miles from where i am now. every new detail helped paint a picture of a horrifying tragedy. cnn's anderson cooper explains how it unfolded moment by moment. >> all units, the individual i have on the phone is continuing to hear wh
for the outpouring of support that they have felt here in newtown from all the people around the country and around the world who have been making their condolences well known. and of course we're also going to keep talking about the issue of gun control in the country, for the second day in a role. we' -- in a row. we're hearing president obama call for meaningful action. it's unclear what exactly that would mean. white house correspondent brianna keilar is at the white house for us. lay out there for me, you have pointed out that the president himself has not done much on the issue of gun control. so what are the expectations of what meaningful action could specifically mean? >> reporter: well, gun control advocates, soledad, think that it should mean further gun legislation. they want to see action taken. the thing, though, is it's unclear exactly what president obama means by what he said yesterday in the briefing room, and he reiterated today in his weekly address. he wants to see meaningful action. if you go by his past, in 2008 while he was campaigning, he said he wanted to see a renewal of

have the first report of a lawsuit filed as a result of the newtown school shooting. >>> reuters is reporting a $100 million lawsuit that's been filed against the state of connecticut on behalf of a 6-year-old survivor of the newtown school shooting. according to the claim, the unidentified female has sustained emotional and psychological trauma and injury. the lawsuit also accuses the state of failing to take the appropriate steps to protect children from foreseeable harm. >>> this morning, we've learned the name of the man pushed to his death to from a subway platform in new york on thursday. witnesses say 46-year-old sunando psen was pushed by a woman police describe as heavyset in her 20s. she was caught on camera fleeing the scene. it's the second subway killing in new york just this month. >>> in ohio, a college honors student has been granted a restraining order against her parents of all people. a judge has ordered the parents of aubrey ireland to stay at least 500 feet away from their daughter until september of next year. 21-year-old ireland says her parents would track
